What It Is, How It Works, and How to Take Control of Your Rates
Turo offers hosts a tool called Dynamic Pricing—a feature that automatically adjusts your vehicle’s daily rate based on factors like demand, seasonality, and market conditions.
It’s designed to help you stay competitive, save time on pricing adjustments, and potentially increase your earnings. But while it sounds helpful, it’s not for everyone. In fact, many hosts choose to disable it and set their own custom rates instead.
This post will break down exactly how Dynamic Pricing works, how to manage it, and how to turn it off if you want full control over your pricing.
What Is Dynamic Pricing?
Dynamic Pricing is an optional feature that automatically adjusts your vehicle’s daily rental price to reflect market trends. Turo’s algorithm evaluates data such as:
Current guest demand
Historical booking trends
Seasonality (e.g., holidays, peak travel seasons)
Comparable vehicle pricing in your area
Based on these factors, Turo will adjust your price up or down each day within the range you’ve set for that vehicle.
How Dynamic Pricing Works
When Dynamic Pricing is turned on:
You set a minimum and maximum daily price for your vehicle
Turo’s algorithm will adjust your actual trip price daily based on their pricing model
You cannot set custom day-to-day rates or override pricing for specific dates (unless you turn off Dynamic Pricing)
Your vehicle will always be priced somewhere between your minimum and maximum, and the actual price will change regularly to reflect Turo’s pricing data.
Example: If you set your min at $45/day and your max at $75/day, your listing might show at $52 one day and $70 another, depending on demand.
How to Manage or Adjust Dynamic Pricing
You can customize your Dynamic Pricing settings at any time. Here’s how:
On Desktop:
Log in at Turo.com
Go to Vehicles > [select vehicle]
Click Pricing > Dynamic pricing
Adjust your minimum and maximum daily price using the sliders
On the Mobile App:
Open the Turo app
Tap the Host tab
Select Vehicles > [choose your car]
Tap Pricing > Dynamic Pricing
Adjust the min/max price range
How to Turn Off Dynamic Pricing and Set Your Own Rates
If you want full control over your pricing—including custom rates for weekends, holidays, or slow seasons—you’ll need to turn off Dynamic Pricing.
Here’s how:
On Desktop:
Go to Vehicles > Pricing > Dynamic Pricing
Click the toggle to turn it off
Go back to the “Pricing” section and set your base daily price
On Mobile App:
Tap the Host tab > Vehicles > Pricing > Dynamic Pricing
Toggle Dynamic Pricing off
Return to the main pricing screen and set your daily rate manually
With Dynamic Pricing disabled:
You can set a fixed rate for every day
You can adjust rates for individual days using the calendar (optional)
Turo will no longer automatically adjust your price
Is Dynamic Pricing Right for You?
Dynamic Pricing can be helpful for hosts who:
Want to remain competitive in fluctuating markets
Prefer not to monitor pricing manually
List vehicles in high-demand or seasonal markets
But you may want to disable it if:
You’ve carefully calculated your pricing based on ROI or depreciation
You offer premium vehicles and want fixed brand-value pricing
You don’t want Turo adjusting your rates below a certain threshold
Turo’s Dynamic Pricing feature is flexible and useful for many hosts—but it only works if you understand how it functions and where to manage it. Whether you use it or not, the most important thing is this: Don’t let Turo’s automation override your strategy without realizing it.
Take the time to review your pricing settings, understand the min/max range you’ve set, and make sure it reflects your goals as a host.
